The City of Atlantic City is seeking firefighters to assist its Fire Department in protecting the City’s residents, visitors, and properties from fires. 2019 Firefighter applications are now being accepted. No prior experience is required.
Covering 48 blocks, Atlantic City is home to 40,000 permanent residents and entertains 30 million visitors per year. It is home to 9 casinos, 75 high-rise structures, 10 schools and universities, and 20 apartment complexes. The City of Atlantic City employees approximately 900 fulltime employees and is an equal opportunity employer.

REQUIREMENTS
- AC employees are required to successfully complete an approved EMT certification.
- Applicants must be citizens of the United States.
- Applicants must meet residency preferences.
- Applicants must be high school or vocational high school graduates, or possess an approved high school equivalent certificate by June 30, 2019.
- Applicants must be at least 18 but not over 35 (one is over 35 on the day after his or her 35th birthday) except that volunteer firefighters must not be over 40 as of their appointment date.
- Successful candidates shall be required to undergo post offer medical, drug screening, and psychological examination.
- Successful candidates will be required to possess a driver’s license valid in New Jersey.
- Successful candidates will be required to successfully complete an approved Emergency Medical Technician program and maintain certification while employed as a Firefighter.
- CPR Certification: Successful candidates shall be required to obtain a current and valid CPR Certification issued by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association.
- Successful candidates will be required to possess a current and valid FFI certification issued by the NJ Division of Fire.
- ICS 200, level management 1 may be required to possess a current and valid ICS 200 certification issued by the NJ Division of Fire.
- Candidates must be residents of New Jersey.
IMPORTANT TESTING OTHER PROCEDURES
Atlantic City Fire Department Examination Testing for the position of Firefighter is on May 11, 2019 at the Atlantic City Convention Center located at One Convention Boulevard, Atlantic City, New Jersey 08401.
Candidates who successfully pass the written exam will be eligible to take the physical examination. Successful candidates will be notified by June 1 of the date and time they should report for the physical examination. Notice will be sent by email only. A practice course walk-through session for the physical exam will be held at the Atlantic City Convention Center between May 22 and May 29 between 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. by appointment only. It is strongly recommended that eligible candidates for the physical exam attend at least one practice session to familiarize themselves with the evolutions.
